ANG US$3 bilyong kasunduan sa pagitan ng tatlong mga bigating energy firms sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng natural gas ng mga power plants ay isang malaking banta para sa mga consumer dahil magdudulot ito ng pagtaas sa presyo ng koryente sa pamamagitan ng monopolyo ng liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry.
Ayon kay consumer group United Filipino Consumers and Commuters (UFCC) President Rodolfo Javellana, Jr., ang pagsasanib-puwersa ng tatlong kompanyang San Miguel Global Power Holdings Corp., Meralco PowerGen Corp., at Aboitiz Power Corp., para patakbuhin ang LNG facility sa Batangas ay naglalayon lamang na pataasin ang kanilang kita at patatagin ang kanilang LNG industry.
“What transpired was these oligarch companies consolidated to maintain their monopoly in the power industry. In this consolidation, they aim to maximize the profits for their respective corporations,” ani Javellana.
Iginiit ni Javellana, ang pagsasanib-puwersang ito ay lubhang maapektohan ang mahigit walong milyong consumers dahil sa magiging dagdag pasanin nila.
“Even then, reducing electricity rates for the well-being of consumers had never been the priority of these companies. Their primary goal as always is to ensure that their earnings are big,” dagdag ni Javellana.
Tiniyak ni Javellana, walong milyong consumers ang magdurusa sa pagtaas ng singil sa presyo ng koryente bilang resulta ng paggamit ng imported LNG sa kanilang Batangas facility na nakadisenyong mas lalong magiging magastos ang paggamit ng krudo.
Pinuna ni Javellana ang kawalang aksiyon para bigyang proteksiyon ang mga consumer.
“This was further worsened by the regulatory capture of government agencies that should have been acting as check and balance and defending the eight million consumers held hostage by constant price hike. The public cannot hope for any redress in the future as they can only expect costlier electricity,” giit ni Javellana.
Binigyang-diin ni Javellana, ang mataas na presyo ng koryente ay taliwas sa tunay na economic goals ng kasalukuyang administrasyon.
Naniniwala si Javellana, hindi makahihikayat ng mga mamumuhunan sa bansa dahil sa presyo ng koryente na sinasabing pinakamataas sa buong mundo.
Dahil dito, nanawagan si Javellana sa Kongeso na busisiin at muling pag-aralan ang EPIRA Law dahil ito ay nagreresulta sa mataas na singil sa presyo ng koryente.
