ANG galing! Kahanga-hanga. Ito ang nasambit namin nang ihayag ng bumubo ng produksiyon ng M Butterfly na pinangungunahan nina RS Francisco at Jhett Tolentino, ang tunay na pakay ng muling pagpapalabas ng Tony Award for Best Play na isinulat ni David Henry Hwang.
Paano’y ibibigay nila ang kikitain ng M Butterfly sa mga napili nilang charitable institution o organization ukol sa education at arts.
Unang itatanghal ang M Butterfly sa September 13 sa Maybank Performing Arts Theater, sa BGC Arts Center, Bonifacio Global City. Ito’y mapapanood hanggang Sept. 30.
Ito’y handog ng Tony at Grammy award winning producer na si Jhett at ng Frontrow Entertainment at ididirehe ng award-winning na si Kanakan Balintagos.
Dekada 90 unang ginawa ni RS ang M Butterfly na aniya’y batambata pa siya noon. Gagampanan ni RS ang karakter ni Song Liling, ang Chinese opera singer na nagustuhan ni Rene Gallomard, miyembro ng French embassy sa China.
“Pinagkatiwalaan nila ako noong 18 pa lang ako,” sambit ni RS. “ Una kong ginawa ang ‘M Butterfly’ clueless, naive and still a virgin in someways,” esplika pa ng aktor.
Sambit pa niya, ”I did not have that experience at that time. I had to pick up and tried to think that I’m 40 and i’ve gone so much angst and all that. But now that I’m 24, okey sige na nga 25, now that I’m a little bit older, parang ang feeling ko with all I’ve gone thru, with all the hardships, heartbreaks I can put into the character of Song Liling now.
“Ive feel with Kanakan directions and motivations I can layers Song Liling even more so that’s how I feel I can do justice to her right now. More I did noong 1993.”
Pinag-usapan ang pag-po-frontal noong unang ginawa ni RS ang M Butterfly, kaya natanong ang aktor kung gagawin niya iyon muli?
Aniya, “I dont know with the director. I don’t know with the playwright but as much as I know when we got the license for ‘M Butterfly’ thru Jhett Tolentino kay David Hwang, we told him (Hwang) that we wanted the original scripts and we will be as faithful. We will not alter or tampered it even if our director here is so surreal. And out of the box and sometimes in borderline.”
Paglalahad pa ni RS, “Just to let you envisioned, Kalamar wants me to feel or to be in 60 or 20. Sabi ko gusto mo akong maging Tita? But that’s a joke.
“But we want David to assure that we will stick to the script and we will not change anything o wala kaming papalitan,” pagtitiyak pa ni RS.
Magbibida rin sa M Butterfly bukod kay RS sina Olivier Borten, Pinky Amador, Norm Mcleod, LeeO’Brian, Rebecca Chuaunsu, Maya Encila at marami pang iba.
Ilan sa 14 na beneficiaries naman ay ang Hope for Change, Love Yourself Foundation, Teach for the Philippines at iba pa.
