Public schools in the Philippines face a significant challenge of overcrowding, hindering effective learning due to limited resources and a large student population. The SM Foundation’s School Building program helps uplift this by providing much-needed classrooms in low-income communities.
In line with its commitment to promoting quality education, the foundation recently inaugurated its 107th school building at the South Central Integrated School in San Fernando, La Union, on January 4, 2024.
The two-story, four-classroom structure will help ease overcrowding, creating a conducive learning environment for 200 Grade 7 students of the school. Beyond bricks and mortar, the building symbolizes hope and opportunity for the students. Furnished with inclusive amenities, including left-handed options for armchairs, the school promotes inclusivity with features like a PWD ramp and a PWD-friendly comfort room.
Prioritizing safety and well-being, the building is equipped with fire alarms, emergency lights, and facilities like a ten-faucet handwashing station and overhead water tanks. It also features dedicated rooms for a guidance office, art gallery, and a prayer room are to enhance the school’s functionality, catering to the diverse needs of the community.
SM Foundation’s impact extends beyond constructing schools, resonating in enhanced safety, nurturing learning spaces, and a broader commitment to educational empowerment. Building not just structures but opportunities, the foundation stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating a path to a brighter, more inclusive future for countless students nationwide.
