MAPALAD kami na nakapanayam namin si Q Allan Brocka na pamangkin ng legendary director na si Lino Brocka.
“Lino’s father and my grandfather were brothers, but I was never able to meet him.
“Well, I don’t know what the position is called but his father and my grandfather were brothers,” umpisang kuwento sa amin ni Allan na isa ring direktor.
Hindi na nakilala ng personal ni Allan si direk Lino.
Alam ni Allan na isa sa pinakamahusay at pinakasikat na direktor si Lino lalo na noong buhay pa ito.
“I am aware, it is overwhelming, and he is iconic, he has a legacy that has touched so many people and it can be overwhelming when someone comes to me and asked me about him, I make these little romantic comedies and he made these films that changed people’s lives.”
Ano ang paborito niya sa mga obra maestra ni Lino?
“I’ve only seen a few of them because I need the English subtitles, I really liked ‘Manila by Night,’ I love that, and of course the first one that I saw was ‘Macho Dancer’ ‘coz it’s the most popular in the States.
“And I really liked that. I am also a queer filmmaker, when I found out that he was queer and making these queer films, that was another thing that was just incredible to me, that there’s someone doing all the things I dreamed about when I first got into film, that I was related to.
“But I never had the opportunity to meet him.”
Sa Guam ipinanganak si Allan.
“So we moved around a lot, and always came back to Guam when I was a kid, but then we moved away permanently when I was 14 and I’ve been living in the States since then.”
Amerikana ang ina ni Allan.
“Yeah, my mom is white, we were living in Guam because her stepfather, the only grandfather I knew on that side, is Chamorro, that’s why we’re living there,” kuwento pa sa amin ni Allan.
May gagawing pelikula si Allan, ang Love And Lockdown na mas tatalakay sa romantic side ng buhay ng mga miyembro ng LGBTQI+ community.
“Yeah, it is a romantic-comedy.”
Ngayong Abril ang simula ng shooting nila at isa sa mga dahilan ng pagpunta ni Allan sa Pilipinas, bukod sa location hunting ay upang maghanap ng tunay na transman na gaganap bilang si Danny sa Love And Lockdown.
Katuwang ni Allan sa preprod at location hunting para sa pelikula ang production staff na sina Marinette Lusantaat Lili Esquillom.
