DESIDIDO si Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis na kumalas na sa Mayweather Promotions pagkatapos ng laban niya kay Rolando Romero.
“I neet to control my own career,” pahayag niya.
Idinaan ni Davis sa Twitter ang kanyang pagkadismaya kung paano patakbuhin ng Mayweather Promotions ang kanyang career.
Sa panayam kay Davis ng “Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer,” na kinunan noong Abril 7 pero nung May 23 lang ini-released, sinabi niya roon ang katotohanan ng kumakalat na haka-haka na lilisanin na niya ang Mayweather Promotions.
Sa kickoff press conference para ianunsiyo ang laban ni Davis sa Showtime pay-per-view laban kay Romero sa Sabado, may inilabas na pasubali si Custer sa kanyang podcast. Unang tanong niya kay Davis: “Has the time come for Tank Davis to take control of his own career and leave Mayweather Promotions?”
“It doesn’t necessarily have to be leaving Mayweather Promotions,” paglilinaw ni Davis. “It’s about just, you know, becoming that man to handle your own, you know, responsibility, your own priority. I feel as though it’s my career so I feel as though I need to be the one to control my career, you know what I mean. And it’s time. Everybody doesn’t need to have training wheels on them forever. It’s time to ride their own bike without training wheels.”
“So this is your last fight with Mayweather Promotions?”
“Yes sir,” walang kagatul-gatol na sabi ni Davis.
Humingi rin ng komento si Custer kay Davis tungkol sa sinabi ni Floyd Mayweather Jr. sa isang panayam ng FightHype.com pagkaraang isatinig ni Davis ang kanyang nasasaloob.
Nung March, sinabi ni Mayweather ang pananaw niya tungkol sa pahayag ni Davis: “Nothing lasts forever. I will always love Tank. I like him. Love him – look at him as a son. He has to do what’s best for him. I feel like I’ve done a great job thus far, building him and putting him in good fights, great fights. He’s steady growing, he’s steady learning. I’m proud of him.”
Pahayag naman ni Davis kay Custer: “I feel as though the feeling is mutual. I don’t have bad blood with Mayweather Promotions. I’m definitely appreciative of what they have done for me over the years. There’s no love lost. It’s just time for me to grow up and be my own, you know, my own man.”
Ang Baltimore-bred na si Davis ay dumistansiya ngayon kay Mayweather habang nagpeprepara sa laba niya kay Romero.
