INATASAN ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Philippine National Police (PNP) na magpatupad na ng suspension of military operations (SOMO) laban sa rebeldeng komunista sa buong bansa kaugnay na rin ng ginagawang peace negotiations ng gobyerno sa CPP-NPA-NDF sa Oslo, Norway.
“In the meantime that we have the ceasefire because of the Oslo talks, not because we want to be extra friendly but you know, forget in the meantime, even for a short period, and I hope it would go a long, long period for a peaceful resolution of the communist rebellion against the Republic of the Philippines. ‘Yan lang po, very important so that everybody will be apprised of my decision, which is mainly based on a consensus and with the concurrence of all the commanding generals of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” ani Duterte sa press conference sa Davao City kahapon ng madaling araw.
Nanawagan ang Pangulo sa puwersa ng pamahalaan na huwag sasama ang loob sa kanya dahil bilang Punong Ehekutibo ay tungkulin niyang pairalin ang kapayapaan sa bansa.
“I’m addressing myself to the government forces or the security forces na huwag kayong masyadong masama ang loob because as mayor—as President, my main task is to seek the peace for my country. I am not a President who would enjoy waging war against the citizens of this Republic. It pains me deeply to see people dying for an ideology. Puwede naman natin mapag-usapan nang mapayapa, just like now. I would have just also wondered bakit kailangan pa tayo magpatayan for 45 years only to end up, which is really a significant event for everybody,” dagdag niya.
Umapela rin si Duterte sa mga Moro na itigil na ang pakikipagtunggali bagkus ay magkaisa at isulong ang tunay na kapayapaan sa Mindanao.
“I am also appealing to my Moro brothers, our Moro brothers and sisters the same thing. Bigla kong — gaya ngayon di na tayo mag-away. But let me just stress also a point here: I am committed to give to the Moro people what I promised. Tanggalin na lang ninyo muna ‘yung Constitutional issues na nasa BBL para wala nang gulo, no court, no litigation, no nothing at kung in the fullness of God’s time, we’ll have a successful talk, we can have a Constitution that— embedded na ‘yung hinihingi ninyo,” wika ni Duterte.
Nitong Sabado, nagdeklara ng indefinite unilateral ceasefire ang gobyerno bilang tugon sa pitong araw na unilateral ceasefire ng CPP-NPA kaugnay sa peace talks sa Oslo.
“We cannot be at war at all times. ‘Yung sa generation natin, wala na tayong makita kundi magpapatayan. Sana bago ako umalis sa mundong ito e magkaroon tayo ng lessening of the hatred of war,” sabi ng Pangulo.
