NAGBABALA si House Deputy Minority Leader at Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate na ang nararanasang blackout ng mga residente sa Occidental Mindoro ay maaaring kumalat hanggang Oriental Mindoro kapag hindi agad sumaklolo ang gobyerno.

Nanawagan si Zarate sa National Power Corporation (NPC) at sa Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) na kumilos agad at bigyan ng fuel subsidy ang isla ng Mindoro.

Nabatid, tatlong power providers ng Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) ang nabigong makakuha ng fuel supply mula sa mga supplier sa loob at labas ng lalawigan kaya’t kinapos ng halos 18 Megawatts (MW)ang power supply at kapag nagpatuloy ito’y hindi lang brownout kundi blackout ang mararanasan sa lalawigan.

“Just a few days ago, three power providers of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) failed to secure fuel supply from suppliers inside and outside the province that amounts to a power deficit of at least 18 Megawatts (MW), which means more brownouts are in the offing for the province. If this continues then a blackout is not far off,” ani Zarate.

Ipinaliwanag ni Zarate, ang operasyon ng isang 15 MW power generator ay nangangailangan ng P5 milyon kada araw at kapag walang fuel subsidy mula sa pamahalaan, hindi na kakayanin ng power providers ang halaga ng gastusin at ang fuel suppliers ay hindi naman magbibigay ng fuel na hindi muna sila binabayaran.

“For the sake of the people of the entire island of Mindoro, we are calling on the NPC and the ERC to act now to end as soon as possible the blackout in Occidental Mindoro and to prevent a similar blackout in Oriental Mindoro,” giit ni Zarate.
