HARD TALK

“I am not even a star!”
“Grateful. Humbled. Forever a servant of the arts.
“Receiving the Golden Screen Awards – Dekada Best Actor recognition for my performance in KATIPS is a moment I will treasure for the rest of my life.
“KATIPS was more than a film to me. I wrote it, directed it, and lived it as an actor.
“And the role was, without question, a role of a lifetime.
“I began as a young college activist—full of fire, dreams, and ideals.
“I became a victim of Martial Law.
“I went to the mountains as an NPA, fighting for the principles my character believed in and paying the consequences of those convictions.
“And finally, I became an 80-year-old curator of a Martial Law Museum—an old man who had lost the strength and vitality of his youth but continued to carry the memories, wounds, and ghosts of his generation.
“To travel through those decades in one performance demanded everything I could give.
“Blood. Sweat. Tears.
“Those were my capital.
“And somehow, that journey brought me honors I never imagined receiving—Best Actor awards from FAMAS, the Star Awards, Gawad PASADO, GEMS Awards, and others.
“And now, to be recognized by the Golden Screen Awards as one of the Best Actors of the Decade, alongside the acting giants of this generation, is something I receive with profound gratitude.
“Awards eventually find their place on shelves. Applause eventually fades. But the privilege of telling stories—especially stories that ask us to remember, question, feel, and understand—stays with an artist forever.
“Thank you to everyone who believed in KATIPS, to everyone who became part of its journey, and to every audience who allowed our story into their hearts.
“I accept this recognition not as a destination, but as a reminder that there are still stories to tell, characters to inhabit, stages to conquer, and audiences to serve.
“Forever grateful for the opportunity.
“And today, more than ever, I renew my commitment:
“To create.
To tell stories.
To remember.
And above all, to serve the Arts.
Maraming, maraming salamat!”
