SA kauna-unahang pagkakataon, inaprubahan ng House Committee on Suffrage ang consolidated bill na nagbabawal sa political dynasties sa Filipinas.
Ipinagbabawal sa nasabing panukala ang pagtakbo sa kaparehong eleksyon ng asawa o kamag-anak ng incumbent ng hanggang “second degree of consanguinity or affinity.” Ipagbabawal din ang posibleng overlap ng magkakamag-anak sa termino sa pag-upo sa pwesto.
Isiningit din ni Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares ang probisyon na nagbibigay ng kapangyarihan sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na resolbahin sa pamamagitan ng raffle kung sino sa pamilya ang maaaring pahintulutang tumakbo sa kaparehong eleksyon sakaling walang magnanais sa pamilya na umatras para isang miyembro na lamang ng mag-anak ang tumakbo.
Sinabi ni Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora, “the important thing is a lot of reforms have to be set in place and it shouldn’t just be in the budget. It should also include political dynasties. Let’s take a look again. We have been remiss in our obligation to implement [this]. Let’s see what they will do at the committee of suffrage. I hope we get the leadership to agree to looking at pol dynasties in a much more aggressive light.”
Ayon naman kay Colmenares, isa sa mga author ng panukala: “Today’s a historic moment, if only because for the first time, pumasa sa komite.”
Inihayag ni ACT TEACHERS Party List Rep. Antonio Tinio, “the next step is for [the lower House] to schedule plenary debates. I call on the public and I hope that the same forces that are for the abolition of the pork barrel system will also be mobilized for this struggle. Alam natin mag-kaugnay ang issue ng pork barrel at dynasties.”
