PH Para-Athletes lalahok sa 11 sports sa Indonesia

ISINAPINAL Ang Ph 144-man athletic roster para sa 11^th ASEAN Para Games,

Ang Para-athletes ay lalahok sa 11 sports na may layong bigyang karangalan ang bansa sa 11^th ASEAN Para Games na nakatakda sa July 30 hanggang Agosto 6 sa Surakarta, Indonesia.

Ang listahan ng national squad na patungo sa Indonesia ay binuo nung nakaraang weekend, ayon kay Philippine Paralympic Committtee president Mika Barredo na inanunsiyo niya ang komposisyon ng contingent kahapon.

“This is a hungry team, a fighting team that is eager to showcase their skills and talent after being deprived of  international competition for over two  years due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” pahayag ni  Barredo.

“I would not be surprised at all if many of our national para athletes will strive harder than ever before in making the most of this opportunity to bring honors to our country in the 11th Asean Para Games,” pandiin pa niya.

Nagpapasalamat ang PPC chief sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) dahil nabigyan nila ng matinding ensayo sa bubble ang mga atleta sa loob ng isang buwan sa Philippine Complex sa Pasig City.

“We would like to thank the PSC’s support for our national para athletes in their bubble  training at the Philsports Complex for over a month without any distractions,” pahayag ni Barredo.

“This training has armed them well for the action ahead in Indonesia,” sabi pa ni Barredo na umaasa na ang Ph campaigners ay malalagpasan ang kanilang 20 gold, 20 silver at 29 bronze medals na tinangay nila sa 2017 edition na ginanap sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Ang track and field team ang inaasahan na hahakot ng medalya na meron tayong 24 entries na pinangungunahan ni Tokyo Paralympic Games veteran, thrower Jeanette Aceveda, at whellcair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, na pinangalanan na skipper of the Ph athletic contigent.

Ang chess team ay inaasahan ding hahakot ng medalya.  Pinangungunahan sila ni 2017 Malaysia Asian Para Games triple gold medalist at FIDE Master Sander Severino,   Samantalang ang 12-man swimming team ay babanderahan ni Ernie Gawilian, na nanalo ng pintong golds sa regional showcase para sa Para atheles.

Merong siyam na miyembro ang archery, badminton, eight, boccia 4, goalball 6, judo five, powerlifting eight, sitting volleyball 10, table tennis 13, samantalang ang men’s at women’s wheelchair basketball may meron 12 at 11 members ayon sa pagkakasunod.

Ang Philippine contigent na suportado ng PSC ay pangungunahan ni Barredo ang 212-man delegation na nakatakdang lumipad sa July 26 sa Java provincial capital ng Surakarta.
