NTC tumupad ng pangako ni Duterte sa SONA na ikatlong telco

TINUPAD ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ang pangako ni Pangulong Rodrigo Rodrigo Duterte sa huling State of the Nation Address (SONA) na magkakaroon ng bagong major player sa telecommunications industry sa inisyung Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity Issuance Ceremony (CPCN) sa Malacañang kamakailan.

Personal na sinamahan si Duterte nina NTC Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba at Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Sec. Gregorio B. Honasan II sa pagkakaloob ng CPCN kay MISLATEL Chairman Dennis Uy.

“President Duterte’s third telco initiative coupled with the implementation of the mandatory unlocking of phones, the mobile number portability act, the implementation of the Common Tower Policy, the removal of text and call interconnection charges, and the implementation of the National Broadband Plan will greatly benefit the Filipino consumer,” sabi ni Cordoba sa kanyang talumpati.

Idinagdag ni Cordoba, natupad ang pangako sa SONA ni Duterte na magkakaroon ng ikatlong telco sa industriyang pinoprotektahan ng duopoly para matiyak ang pagpasok ng MISLATEL na magkakaloob ng mabilis na internet services sa abot-kayang presyo.

Sa pag-isyu ng CPCN, binigyan ng NTC ang MISLATEL ng lisensiya na mag-operate ng frequency bands 700 megahertz (MHz), 2100 MHz, 2000 MHz, 2.5 gigahertz (GHz), 3.3 GHz at 3.5 GHz.

Tatakbo ang MISLATEL sa pangalang Dito Telecommunity para matupad ang pangako nitong 37.03% national coverage na may average speed na 27 Mbps sa unang taon ng operasyon.

Inaasahang sa ikalimang taon ng operasyon ay makokober nito ang 84.01% ng populasyon sa average speed na 55 Mbps.

Tiniyak ng MISLATEL ang pananagutan sa paglalagak ng performance bond na nagkaka­halaga ng P25.7 bilyon.

“Accompanying this bond is a commitment – that I will hold you to that commitment – that you will improve the country’s prevailing Internet speed from 4.5 Mbps to 55 Mbps,” sabi ni Duterte.

“Break the prevailing duopoly in the telecommunications industry and fulfill your commitment to provide better telco services to our people.”
