Harley’s Facebook post last December 10, Monday evening, “HEAVY but BEAUTIFUL and RICH with HISTORY: Catriona Gray’s National Costume reminds me of Miss Paraguay, Pamela Zarza’s costume in 1992 and Miss Myanmar’s in 2016. They struggled to walk because it was so heavy but managed to carry it gracefully and walk away with BEST in NATIONAL Costume Award. Crossing my fingers. IM SO PROUD OF YOU MISS PHILIPPINES.”
Ang manunulat na si Bradford Adkins was in Thailand to cover the said event. His Facebook post last Monday night said, “I am so sorry Catriona Gray but dapat ipako sa krus ang nag-design at nagpasuot sa ‘yo ng National Costume mo. Hirap kang maglakad kasi napakabigat. Did u even do a dry run walking with it? And the artwork looks like a Grade School project. Nakahihiya! You embarrassed not just yourself but the whole Philippines with that costume!”
Anyway, Bradford further ranted, “Para siyang kampanerang kuba maglakad na parang The Passion of The Christ na hirap na hirap.
But then, some writers came to Catriona’s rescue.
In fairness, Catriona deserves our appreciation and applause.
By way of her highly nationalistic costume, she was able to depict our tradition and true character of a true-blooded Filipino.
We were all shocked sa kapangitan ng NatCos niya. We all agree she has the ugliest NatCos of the night. Pati nga Thaidancers, talbog ang NatCos ni Catriona. Nagmukha talaga siyang kawawa… pati Philippines, nagmukhang kawawa…Hindi siya makalakad nang maayos sa bigat ng pasan niyang ewan kung ano ‘yun, it doesn’t look like a lantern to us. Sa hirap niyang maglakad, inabutan siya ni Poland sa likod. Akala ko nga, tutulungan siya ni Poland magbuhat ng pasang krus niya.
“Sa NatCos, even if you don’t win, OK huwag ka lang magkalat sa pagrampa… si Catriona, nagkalat?”
And whose national costume did he like?
Bradford was quick to answer, “Thailand, hands down. Simple yet elegant and nationalistic.”
Is that sooooo? Well, why don’t you stay there and have AIDS as well! Hahahahahahahaha!
And with that, ito po ang Kuya Pete ninyo na nagsasabing, Christopher, my son, I love you very. very much, my love for you goes beyond eternity.
Adios. Mabalos. I always need you, Nhong!
