Mga Senador humihirit ng mas malaking pondo para sa Nat’l Team

NAGPAHAYAG ng suporta ang mga Senador para palakihin pa ang pondo para sa national team sa hearing kahapon sa Senate plenary budget hearing tungkol  Philippine Sports Commission’s 2021 budget.

Inisponsor ni Senator Sonny Angara, ang PSC’s budget ay pumasa sa senate’s plenary deliberations nung Biyernes, ang ilan sa legislatros ay nagpahayag ng kanilang suporta para sa dagdag na budget sa sports.

 “May I request the sponsors to add a bit of budget for the Olympics and the SEA Games. I think minuscule ang budget and we need to support the athletes,” pahayag ni Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri.   Sinabi nito na meron na siyang paborableng sagot mula kina Senators Joel Villanueva, Nancy Binay, Francis Tolentio at Angara.

Sinuportahan ni Zubiri ang kanyang request at binigyan ng paniniguro na ang pondo ay mapapatakbo nang maayos, pinuri niya ang pamumuno ni PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez. “The Chairman of the PSC does his best and he has done it with limited resources. But I must put on record Mr. President, the Chairman of the PSC’s credibility is untainted in the last four years he has handled the PSC. Even the POC members have no question about his leadership in handling of funds,”  pahayag ni Zubiri, dagdag pa na may halong pakiliti na mas gusto ni Ramirez na hawakan ang mas maliit na pondo kung posible dahil   “he was afraid na pagalitan siya ng Presidente kung may mawala at hindi ma-account na pondo. So, I really truly appreciate the leadership of Chairman Ramirez.”

Nang sumalang sa floor si Villanueva, sinabi niya  “I hope that we can do more for sports not only because we can win medals in the SEA Games or the Olympics, but because sports is such a unifying force. It gives so much hope to our countrymen and our people, especially for the young people of our nation.”  Sinegundahan ni Sen. Imee Marcos ang sentiments, pinasalamatan ang PSC at si Ramirez sa pagpapaunlad nito sa sports.

Pinasalamatan naman ni Sen. Binay ang PSC para sa ‘record-record’ numer of medals sa nakaraang SEA Games.   Umaasa siyang may sapat na budget para sa pagpapadala ng atleta sa susunod na SEA Games sa Vietnam para madepensa ang ating titulo.

“We are deeply touched by our senators’ support.  We thanked them for recognizing the important role sports play in nation building, as well as recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our athletes,” pahayag ni Ramirez na naroon mismo sa hearing.

Ang budget ng sports agency  covers, among others, pondo para sa limang major international competitions na nakatakda sa 2021,  katulad ng 32^nd Summer Olympics, 31st SEA Games, Asian Beach Games, Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games at  Paralympics, na siyang inisplika ni Angara sa naging klaripikasyon ni Sen. Frank Drilon tungkol sa dagdag sa requeste funds  na 688.4 million.   Tiniyak ni Drilon na ang mga atleta ay magkakaroon ng sapat na pondo para sa mga importanteng kompetisyon.
