\NAKATAKDANG imbestigahan ng Customs Bureau ang tangkang pag-smuggle ng P18 milyong halaga ng Marlboro cigarettes sa Manila International Container Port.
Ayon sa source mula sa Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), ang Intelligence Group Risk Management Office (RMO) ng Customs ay nagsasagawa na ng masusing imbestigasyon upang matukoy ang mga tao sa likod ng tangkang smuggling ng Philip Morris-product, inisyal na may tatak na fake Marlboro cigarettes.
“Actually, there is no proof yet that it was a fake (Marlboro) cigarettes. How can you prove it was a fake,” pahayag ng CIIS intelligence officer na hindi nagpabanggit ng pangalan.
Aniya, ang RMO team na nakapigil sa smuggling, ay nakikipag-coordinate na sa CIIS kaugnay sa isinasagawang imbestigasyon.
Ang shipment na mula China ay dumating sa Manila North Harbor at naka-consign sa Transocean Export Sales sa Intramuros, Manila.
Iprinisenta ni dating Customs commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon, nagbitiw sa pwesto kamakailan, ang impounded shipment sa mga miyembro ng media nitong Oktubre 31.
Aniya, idineklara ng may-ari ng shipment ang smuggled goods bilang mono acetate filter rods sa import manifest nito, na malinaw na kaso ng technical smuggling at paglabag sa Customs law.
“Misdeclaration, as defined in the Tariffs and Customs Code of the Philippines, is outright smuggling. Thus, value declaration is no longer an issue in determining whether an alert-order should be issued or not as all misdeclared shipments are subject to immediate seizure by the government,” pahayag ni Biazon.
