Tinalo ng 21-anyos Pinay beauty ang 71 kandidata sa 53rd Miss International beauty pageant.
Umangat si Santiago sa final round na binigyan sila ng 30-segundong talumpati sa temang: ”What will I do if I became Miss International” na itinugon niya ang trahedyang sinapit ng Filipinas sa pananalasa ng super typhoon Yolanda.
“The whole world saw my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other,” ani Santiago.
“If I become Miss International, I would uphold international camaraderie. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope.”
Itinanghal na 1st runner-up si Miss Netherlands habang 2nd runner-up si Miss New Zealand.
Si Santiago ang ika-limang Pinay na kinoronahan sa Miss International kasunod nina Precious Lara Quigaman, 2005; Melanie Marquez, 1979; Aurora Pijuan, 1970; at Gemma Teresa Cruz, 1964.
Ito na ang ikatlong sunod na titulo ng Filipinas ngayon taon matapos tanghaling Miss Supranational si Mutya Johanna Datul at Miss World si Megan Young.
