𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐹, 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬 – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 led by Dr. Virginia G. Bilgera in partnership with the the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) and the Outstanding Young Scientists, Inc. (OYSI) conducted a training-Workshop on Writing and Presenting Proposals towards Building Science Culture (Module1) under the Research Upgrading and Performance Evaluation (RUPE) Program today, May 11, 2023.

The RUPE aims to make an impact in the field of research and development by creating an exchange of ideas from different expertise and collaborations in the scientific community to upgrade the quality of research, scientific outputs, and publications.

One of the goals of the activity is to harness the Research and Developments (R&D) capabilities, to elevate the Science Culture and to answer the current concerns and needs of the province in Science and Technology.

The partnership between DOST R02, NAST PHL and OYSI will further help the Batanes province to improve their R&D output, evaluate their research performance, and most importantly to increase their publication outputs through various activities such as workshops on scientific writing, mentoring, and discussions on research ethics, research management, and incentives for researchers.

Moreover, this will create a greater impact in the field of research and development of the province by creating an exchange of ideas from different expertise and collaborations in the scientific community.

In his message, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang urged the researchers to support the EINSTEIN 1K of the DOST by filing Intellectual Property Rights application to boost engagement on STI.

“I hope that this training-workshop will build the capacity of our young and aspiring researchers in preparing good quality and highly competitive research proposals with the guidance of our invited resource persons and experts.” Engr. Mabborang highlighted this in his message.

“I encourage you to make an impact in the field of research and development by creating an exchange of ideas from different expertise and collaborations in the scientific community”, he added.

Participants for the training were teacher-researchers from different high schools in Batanes, Batanes State College professors and students, St. Dominic College instructors and government employees from the Provincial Government of Batanes.

With this, DOST R02 thru the leadership of Dr. Bilgera will continue to support the society with various S&T interventions, learn and create new S&T synergies and opportunities for the province and to maximize the vital contribution of R&D in the country.
