‘MAXIMUM TOLERANCE’ IPATUPAD SA POLL PROTEST RALLIES – AÑO

INATASAN ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año ang Philippine National Police (PNP) na magpatupad ng maximum tolerance sa lahat ng poll protest rallies at paigtingin ang seguridad sa lahat ng canvassing areas.

Ayon kay Año, kinikilala nila ang karapatan ng mga mamamayan na magpahayag ng kanilang sentimiyento at reaksiyon ngunit nanindigan na dapat isagawa nang naaayon sa batas.

“My order to the PNP is to ensure public order at all times and to exercise maximum tolerance in handling rallies and demonstrations. People have freedom to express their sentiments and reactions but they must be done within the bounds of law and order,” pahayag ni Año.

Kasabay nito, sinabi ng DILG chief, ang halalan noong 9 Mayo ay mapayapa at maayos kaya’t dapat aniyang antabayanan ng publiko ang opisyal na proklamasyon sa mga nanalo at irespeto ang boses ng nakararami.

Giit niya, dapat magtulungan ang mga mamamayan para sa kabutihan ng bansa at ng mga mamamayan nito.

Hinikayat rin niya ang mga demonstrador na ihain ang kanilang mga protesta at reklamo sa mga kinauukulan, partikular sa Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“We urge the people to file their protest and complaint to proper authorities particularly to the Comelec. The election last May 9 was peaceful and orderly; and let us wait for the official proclamation of the winners. After that, we have to respect the voices of the majority and let us work together for the good of our country and people,” dagdag ng kalihim. (ALMAR DANGUILAN)
