Going back to Erickson ay may ilalabas silang official statement at babahagian kami ‘pag natapos na.
Re: Accident in Siargao Island FB Post of Ms. Yeng Constantino
“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident experienced by Mr. Yan Asuncion, Ms. Yeng Constantino’s husband. We continue to pray for the full recovery of Mr. Asuncion and we thank Ms. Yeng for bringing to our attention the matters that apparently still need to be addressed as regards Siargao’s response to emergencies. The public may rest assured that the Provincial Government, the local executives, health and tourism officials and this representation have been taking steps to make Siargao as safe a destination as it is beautiful and fun.
“Even before the emergencies that involved the loved ones of some of the country’s prominent personalities, we have sought legislation that would lift the status of the institution in question, the Siargao District Hospital, in the Municipality of Dapa, into a Level 2 hospital with more equipment and beds—one with 100 rooms from the current 15. Upgrading the hospital will also address the hospital’s biggest concern, the lack of personnel and manpower, including doctors, nurses, technicians and janitors, as it is going to be entitled to a budget directly from the National Government.
“Recently, more ambulances have been deployed for residents as well as tourists in Siargao and nearby areas. Trainings particularly on the management of trauma patients and pre-hospital care of trauma cases are being conducted by the Provincial Health Office while Basic Life Support Trainings for responders of hotels, boatmen, surfing instructors are also ongoing.
“On the part of this representation, our mandate is to pass legislation and request funds for inclusion in the yearly budget. Unfortunately, budgets, like any government programs and projects just do not happen overnight, they take considerable time and process.
“Again, we thank Ms. Yeng for citing the quick response of boatmen and ambulance personnel to Yan’s condition and the helpfulness of Siargao’s emergency personnel. We also agree with her observation that as Siargao draws tourists from around the world, its emergency capabilities should improve correspondingly. Its local authorities and this representation are and have long been taking steps towards that end.
“Thank you very much and God bless Siargao Island.”
This is the 18th Congress version of the bill. This was first filed during the 17th Congress.”
