TM Football Para Sa Bayan: How Globe changed the business model for youth football

FOOTBALL training camps in the Philippines for the youth are known to be very costly in order for the youth to participate. However, Globe Telecom has provided an opportunity to the less privileged children to be able to learn football.

Globe recently shared the social impact of its grassroots youth football program, “TM Football Para Bayan” (Football for the Nation), to the key football stakeholders of the country at The Business of Football-Philippines Conference in Makati.

(L-R): Miguel Bermundo, Director-OIC, Citizenship and Advocacy Marketing, Globe Telecom; Atty Ed Gastanes, General Secretary, Philippine Football Federation; Paul Tolentino, General Manager, Kaya FC – Iloilo; Eric Gottschalk, CEO, MMC Sportz Marketing; Phillip Hagedorn, Director, Kaya FC; Dan Palami, Team Manager, Philippines National Football Team; Ernie Nierras, President, Stallion Laguna FC

Miguel Bermundo, Globe OIC for Citizenship, discussed in the event that TM Football Para Sa Bayan is a major program used by the company to contribute to two United Nations (UN) Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) which are good health and well-being and quality of education for the youth.

“Globe is committed to support the UN-SDGs as a responsible corporate citizen as we take upon ourselves to go beyond business to address the pressing issues of our time,” Bermundo revealed.

Bermundo said that the TM Football Para Sa Bayan provides opportunities to the underprivileged children, especially those who are out of school youth, through partnership with selected non-government organizations.

“Through the TM Football Para Sa Bayan, we are using sports to instill the importance of having good values and education and good health. We also want to establish sports communities and create opportunities for higher learning for these kids,“ he revealed.

Established in 2012, TM Football Para Sa Bayan was able to produce three members of the national football team. The program also sent nine kids to be trained in FC Barcelona-Escola Football Camp in Barcelona as part of its partnership with Astro Kembola in Malaysia that invited TM Football Para Sa Bayan to be part of the their youth football program.

Since its birth, the TM Football Para Sa Bayan was able to invite 1,200 participants in 63 cities and towns nationwide supported by more than a hundred football clubs and organization.
