KABILANG ang terminong ‘lolcat,’ ‘duck face’ at ‘mahoosive’ sa 1,000 bagong salita na idinagdag

sa Oxford Dictionaries online.

Itinatala ng website ang record ng current at modern English words, at madalas na nag-a-update ng mga bago.

Kabilang din sa idinagdag ang ‘well jel’, ‘man crush’ at ‘WTAF’ sa pinakamaraming quarterly update sa free online dictionary.

Ang ‘lolcat’ ay funny picture ng pusa, ang ‘duckface’ ay lip-thrusting, pout lips na kadalasang ginagawa sa ‘selfies’, habang ang ‘mahoosive’ ay simply extra large ang ibig sabihin.

Ang ibig sabihin ng ‘well jel’ ay extremely jealous, ang ‘man crush’ ay non-sexual bonding ng dalawang lalaki, at ang ‘WTAF’ ay ‘what the actual f***’.

Ang entries ay repleksiyon ng popular culture at kabilang din ang mga salitang mula sa gaming culture katulad ng respawn (a game character who reappears after dying) at permadeath (one who does not reappear).

Pinalawak ng OxfordDictionaries.com ang kanilang coverage ng Australian English terms, na partikular na mayaman sa slang katulad ng ‘shiny bum’ (office worker) at ‘sticker licker’ (a traffic warden).

Sinabi ni Judy Pearsall, editorial director ng Oxford Dictionaries: ‘’One of the benefits of our unique language monitoring programme is that it enables us to track in detail how English language evolves over relatively short periods of time.

“For instance, in this age of the selfie perhaps it’s no surprise that average monthly usage of the term duckface is 35 per cent higher in 2014 than it was last year.’’
