Parlade ‘buminggo’ ulit sa 4 NCR universities

BUMINGGO na naman ang walang pakun­dangang pag-aakusa ni Southern Luzon Command (SolCom) chief at gov’t anti-communist mouthpiece Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade, Jr., sa apat na unibersidad sa Metro Manila bilang “recruitment havens” ng mga grupong komu­nista.

Sa inilabas na joint statement, tinuligsa ng Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, at ng Far Eastern University ang pahayag ni Parlade na may 18 unibersidad sa buong bansa ang hotbeds ng recruitment ng Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

Anila, inulit ni Parlade ang akusa­syong ginawa laban sa kanilang mga unibersidad noong 2018 na wala naman basehan.

“This charge, though, is really ‘getting old’— a rehash of the public accusation the general made in 2018 —irresponsibly since cast without proof.”

Matatandaan noong 2018 ay pinagbintangan din ni Parlade ang CPP na nagrerekluta ng mga kasapi sa iba’t ibang unibersidad sa pamama­gitan ng pagpapalabas ng mga pelikulang tuma­talakay sa martial law.

Inakusahan pa sila na sangkot sa nabisto umanong Red October plot kasama ng Liberal Party, Magdalo soldiers at ilang sundalo na may pakay na patalsikin si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte pero hindi naman ito naganap.

“We therefore object to General Parlade’s statement and emphasize that our institutions neither promote nor condone recruitment activities of the New People’s Army and, indeed, of any movement that aims to violently overthrow the govern­ment,” sabi sa joint statement.

Binigyan diin nila na ang kanilang mga paaralan ay nagpapa­halaga sa batayang karapatan sa pamama­hayag, kaisipan, pagtiti­pon at pagsali sa organisasyon alinsunod sa Saligang Batas.

“And as institutions of higher learning that are stewards of the youth, repositories and producers of knowledge, and builders of communities, we must retain independence and autonomy from the State and other social institutions,” dagdag ng mga unibersidad.

Ginagampanan din nila ang mga respon­sibilidad na “promote learning and safeguard the rights of the young who are entrusted to our care.”

Muling umingay ang red-tagging sa mga unibersidad matapos kanselahin ni Defense Secretary Delfin LOrenzana ang 1989 UP-DND accord o ang kasunduang nagba­bawal sa mga pulis at militar na pumasok at kumilos sa loob ng mga campus ng University of the Philippines (UP) dahil naging safe haven umano ng mga kaaway ng estado ang UP.
